  • Katie has been honored with DOZENS OF AWARDS for her service. Recently, she was named the League of Cities and Towns Legislative Champion for two consecutive years.

MALIA COHEN

FIRST BLACK WOMAN ELECTED TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

  • Controller Cohen has championed policies and programs that protect public health, foster economic development, promote new affordable housing, and create good jobs through protecting and expanding San Francisco’s manufacturing base.

  • On the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, she led efforts to divest the city’s pension fund from fossil fuels, oversaw the adoption of an $11 billion budget as Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, and fought to increase the minimum wage.

  • Karen's leadership has led to a drop in homelessness, decrease in violet crime, expansion of city services, small-business support, and climate leadership in Los Angeles.

  • Beyond her mayoral role, Karen was elected to serve as the 67th Speaker of the California State Assembly, becoming the FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN in United States history TO SERVE AS A SPEAKER of a state legislative body.
